big smoke, chimneys
endeavour within me
circling the tops of the towers
scrape the sky
hustle and bustle
litter floating russles
hubbub and the milling people
pushing to get by
slurs cue laughter
drunks turn irate after
the carriage or the platforms
find their state entertaining
commuters get pissed
as their transport has been missed
and their mood follows weather as
the sky starts with the raining
daily routines and the same old faces
same morning paper same boring places
a light it flickers on
the corridors echoed with song
a penniless hat and a rugged old mat
home to a bag of ballads
phone calls ring around
come as one big muddled sound
moaning about the rain
or lack of chicken in the salad
theres many songs about the city but dont resonate what we know to be true
theres many wanting pity oh for heavens sake everybodies feeling it too
